Signs My Suspension Has Gone Bad

It can be easy to forget about the suspension until something goes wrong. Generally, the suspension does not require service until at least 30,000 miles. This being said, it’s a good idea to have the suspension checked annually to make sure everything is okay. Below, we are going to list the signs that the suspension in your automobile has gone bad.

A Bumpy Ride

The parts of the suspension that keep your ride comfortable are the struts and the shocks. If you take care of your vehicle’s suspension, you could get 60,000 miles out of the struts in the shocks. When they wear out, your ride will get extremely bumpy and uncomfortable.

Lurching/Leaning

In addition to the bumpy ride, your vehicle will also start to lurch and lean. This is momentum motion, and the shocks and struts prevent it. Unfortunately, until you replace these suspension parts, your automobile’s body will respond to your motion, including when you turn.

Leaking Shocks

One final sign that it’s time for new struts and shocks is if they start to leak. You can reach up behind the wheels and touch the shocks and struts to see if they feel greasy. If they do, they are leaking the fluid that is found inside of them. This fluid helps them absorb the road bumps.

Low-Sitting Corner

Your suspension also needs to be repaired if your car is sitting low on one corner. In addition to the low-seated corner, your automobile may also clunk when you go over bumps. Unfortunately, both of these things mean that you have broken a suspension spring on one of the wheels.

Steering Problems

Your steering system is part of your vehicle’s suspension. As such, if you have steering problems, you have suspension problems. Steering problems can include difficulties turning the steering wheel or an unresponsiveness to your steering commands. The steering system can also start to leak steering fluid.

Pulling to the Side

Finally, your automobile should go straight unless you tell it otherwise. If your automobile pulse to the side, you need to have the wheels realigned. This suspension service should be done every two years. That is, and less you knock the wheels out of alignment prematurely.

Call us today if you’re having any of the problems listed above. We would be happy to inspect your suspension to determine what needs to be repaired. We will provide a detailed estimate of the necessary repairs for you to approve.
