Brown Automotive can help if your car’s engine is making strange noises. It’s a good idea to have the issue looked into as soon as possible. In some cases, the noise that the engine is making could be a sign of engine damage. If you continue to drive your vehicle, you can damage the engine further. Let’s talk about the different engine noises below and what they mean.
Grinding
For example, a grinding sound can be an indication that there is a problem with the oil circulation. Generally, this points to a clogged oil filter. Without any oil circulating through the engine, the parts have no choice but to grind against each other without the oil. This can damage them beyond repair.
Knocking
A knocking noise can also be a sign that a portion of your engine is being damaged. In this case, it is the cylinder block. The rods in your engine move the pistons up and down inside the cylinders. If the rod bearings are loose, the rods will jiggle and cause the pistons to crash against the cylinders. In addition to this problem, your engine may also knock if there is an issue with the detonation in the cylinders.
Popping
A popping noise can take you by surprise because it is so unexpected. This can be a sign that the exhaust manifold has cracked, and, consequently, exhaust is leaking into the engine. Your engine can also pop if there is a hole in the muffler. In addition, it can pop if there is a clog in the catalytic converter.
Roaring
The last two exhaust system parts can also make your engine roar. A hole in the muffler will make the engine roar loudly and rumble when you press down on the accelerator. If someone has helped themselves to your catalytic converter, the engine will roar loudly when you start it.
Sizzling
It may seem strange to hear sizzling coming from your engine, but if you think about the noise a skill it makes when something cold touches it, this is the sound auto fluids make when they come in contact with hot engine parts. Finding out which fluid is leaking and from where is important to your engine’s health.
Squealing
Finally, a squealing engine is an engine with a loose accessory belt. It could also be an engine with a faulty power steering pump. We can figure out why your engine squeals.
