Every car owner wants their tires to last as long as possible, right? They’re expensive and they never last as long as you really hope that they will. Brown Automotive Repair has some tips for you to help extend the life of your car’s tires for as long as possible.
Check Tire Inflation
If you only do one thing for your car’s tires, check them regularly to make sure that they have the proper air pressure in each one. The right tire pressure is listed in your car’s owner’s manual, but an even easier spot to locate it is on the sticker inside the driver’s side door. Improper tire inflation can lead to all sorts of problems, including blowouts and uneven tread wear. It also makes your car’s engine work harder, which can eventually cause engine damage.
Keep up with Recommended Wheel and Tire Services
Some of the tire and wheel services that your car’s manufacturer recommends might sound frivolous, but they really aren’t. Every single tire and wheel service meets a need, both for your car’s tires and for the car itself. If you’re skipping these services, that creates problems for your tires and can dramatically shorten their lifespan.
Watch Your Driving
How you drive also affects your tires. When you speed or drive more aggressively, that can chew away at your tires. Speeding also causes you to have to stop harder, which can wear away your tire tread faster. All of this can be avoided if you modify your driving just a little bit.
Watch What’s in the Road, Too
Another big concern is the stuff that ends up in the road. You can’t avoid everything, of course, because there’s so much that ends up in the road. But when you deliberately drive over bigger items or drive through potholes, that is just asking for trouble for your car’s tires. You do need to be careful because you never know what might be in the road that can cause big issues like a blowout.
